Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s featured selection, chosen by Afternoon Show host Kevin Cole, is Sharp Drest by Mochipet from the 2008 album Microphonepet on Daly City.
Mochipet - Sharp Drest (MP3)
Folks in Seattle may recall seeing Mochipet last month dressed as a purple dinosaur terrorizing the racks of Sonic Boom during Ballard Day. Whether you were there or not, these photos from the scene are sure to entertain. On Microphonepet, the latest from David Wang, aka Mochipet, the artist has collected 20 tracks from the last five years and amassed nearly 30 guests to contribute. Born in Taiwan and now stationed in the Bay Area, Mochipet produces and creates beats spanning the hip-hop and electronic genres, often combining the two in memorable fashion. And as you’re now aware, Mochipet likes to dress up, not fancy-like but in full-on costumes. Though his in-store at Sonic Boom was short lived, the attire added volumes, leaving me more a little curious about his performances in an official capacity. Finally, Mochipet, like most DJ/producers, is seriously into the art of remixing. Last month he announced a remix contest, asking others to take a stab at his work. See what folks have come up with here. Conversely, Mochipet recently tried his hand at Jamie Lidell’s Little Bit of Feel Good, downloadable here courtesy of XLR8R. But back to the here and now, you barely have to lift a finger to enjoy this video for Get Your Whistle Wet:
